Hummus
April 15, 2023Cauliflower Rice with Peppers and Carrots
August 8, 2023Do you want a light dessert that is easy to prepare, yet tastes amazingly delicious? This one is for you. Apples poached with raisins, cinnamon sticks and cloves make a wholesome and delicious dessert. Of course, apples, cinnamon and walnuts naturally go together, so you may want to serve it with crushed walnuts. Adding a spoonful of fresh cream will jazz it up.
Almost all varieties of apples can be used. Lately I’ve been using Envy apples. I’ve made this dessert with McIntosh, Gala, and Honeycrisp and Fuji kind before and it all worked well, except for the Granny Smith. I was hoping that they will give a tangy taste, but, somehow they cooked too fast, slices got mushy.
Ingredients:
- 2 lb – about 4 large apples.
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 3/4 cup ÅŸugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 10-15 cloves
To serve:
- 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon to sprinkle on top
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- ½ cup fresh cream (optional)
Directions:
- Wash and peel apples. Cut each apple into 8 slices, remove the pits in the middle.
- Place apple slices in a large pot, single layer, if possible.
- Add raisins.
- Add sugar, water, cinnamon sticks and cloves.
- Cover the pot, bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to medium low. Let it simmer until apples are tender. Depending on the apple and the size, this might take 10-20 minutes. Check frequently to avoid ending with mushy apples.
- Remove cover, let it cool.
- Cover and keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Arrange apple slices on a serving plate. Sprinkle cinnamon. Serve with chopped walnuts and/or fresh cream on the side, both of them are optional.
Afiyet Olsun! Bon Appetit!
